At KDC Projects, we are passionate about encouraging young people to get involved in STEM and helping to spark an early interest in engineering. That is why we were proud to sponsor Lytchett Minster School’s Minster Motors, an after-school engineering and motorsport club that gives students the opportunity to learn through hands-on experience.
Minster Motors is an after-school club where students design, build and race electric vehicles as part of the Greenpower racing series. The programme allows students to take what they learn and apply it in a practical, real-world setting, giving them a genuine insight into what engineering involves beyond theory.
Throughout the season, students worked through a wide range of engineering challenges, from mechanical assembly and electrical systems to vehicle performance and race preparation. One of the team’s biggest challenges this year was managing motor and battery temperatures. By designing and fitting an active cooling system, students were able to improve reliability and efficiency, while learning how changes in one area of a vehicle can affect overall performance. Along the way, they also built confidence in diagnosing issues, adapting designs and responding quickly when problems arose.
Our sponsorship came at an important point in the club’s development. In previous seasons the team had operated with around 15 places, but interest grew significantly, with more than 65 students applying for the 2024–25 season. To accommodate this demand while maintaining a hands-on experience for everyone involved, the team made the decision to expand by introducing a second car, BOLT, alongside their existing car, VOLT. Early support from sponsors helped make this possible and allowed the team to begin work sooner and with less pressure.
The commitment shown by the students throughout the season was clear, with many giving up time during the half-term break, to continue developing the cars. That effort was rewarded with a strong 9th place class finish at Goodwood 2025, representing a significant improvement on previous seasons where they placed 52nd. While not every race went perfectly, the challenges faced provided valuable lessons and helped the team grow in confidence and capability.
Beyond the results, Minster Motors continues to have a positive impact on the students involved. Younger members gain early exposure to engineering and motorsport, while older students develop leadership skills and take on greater responsibility within the team. The club encourages teamwork, resilience and seeing a project through from start to finish which are all skills that are fundamental to any engineering career.
The team are already discussing future developments, including improving drivetrain efficiency, exploring fixed gear ratios and beginning early planning for a custom-built Formula 24+ car as older students move into Sixth Form. With plenty of exciting plans, ahead, we look forward to continuing our support and exploring opportunities to provide additional resources, including potential access to our 3D printing facilities to support future development.

In March 2023, Australia joined the UK and US in a trilateral agreement to design and implement the next generation of nuclear submarines. Named the SSN-AUKUS deal, it’ll see Australia and the UK’s current fleets of Astute and Collins class submarines replaced by the same model.
